Lolo shows us a whole new way to combine hip hop and pop
Brooklyn artist Lolo has been impressing us with her seamless contrast between her in-your-face, breakbeat accompaniment & subject matter and her sweet pretty voice and melodies. She’s currently on a sold out UK tour with John Newman, which is sure to get her some attention from the masses. From what I hear, she puts on a fantastic show, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing her in the states sometime. Her new song “Gangsters” is a Lana Del Ray-esque homage to some of the trials of growing up as a woman during the hip hop age, although with a much edgier sound and no cutesy Marilyn Monroe’s “happy birthday mr. president” voice.
