GoGo Penguin lays beautiful, dreamy music behind piano
Dream Jazz trio GoGo Penguin includes Chris Illingworth masterfully playing the piano, Nick Blacka plucking away on the double bass as if he was born with a bass in his hands, and Rob Turner glueing it all together on drums/percussion. While all of these musicians clearly have an incredible amount of technical skill, they don’t allow that to impede the feeling of the music, which is much appreciated. GoGo Penguin has been appropriately compared to Massive Attack, although I would certainly say there’s much more traditional jazz influences here; it’s no wonder these cats are really making a name for themselves in the UK jazz scene. They released their debut album in november of 2012, entitled “Fanfares” and it’s about as good as debut albums come. We’re very excited to see what these guys do next.
