George Ezra, you’re so damn catchy.
George Ezra is a singer/songwriter living ini Bristol. First things first, his songwriting is excellent; it’s big, powerful, and simple. That’s a formula that, when done right, has worked for centuries. There’s certainly more than a splash of Johnny Cash embedded in Ezra’s soul. His voice is like being hugged by a huge, hawaiin stranger. I’m not sure what that means either, but I know it feels good. His single, “Budapest”, is one of the best examples of this, and one of my favorite songs of the year, easily. Here it is, and it’s available to free download.
Ezra just released a new song, “Did You Hear The Rain?” and it’s just as good. Sonically, significantly different, but equally good. His new song has much more of a full band production, as opposed to the more traditional instrumentation of Budapest. So far, he really seems like an artist not too keen on finding his footing yet; more like he’s excited to try different things. That’s good shit. Keep it up, georgie, we love ya.
